Lisa has over 20 years of experience as a couples and adult family therapist and is the founder of Lisa Taubenblat Psychotherapy, where she sees couples and families in her private practice office in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

She supports couples in resolving conflict and understanding their differences as strengths. Her work with high-conflict adult children, siblings, and parents offers a model for transforming negative patterns into healthier, more resilient connections.

Therapeutic Approach and Modalities

Lisa takes an active, collaborative approach tailored to the unique make-up, personalities, and cultural norms of each couple or family. Working with flexibility and creativity, therapy is designed together with patients to encourage new paths of understanding and empathy. Every voice is validated, different perspectives are met with sensitivity, and new ways of relating are discovered and practiced together.

Unique to her work: Lisa creates a safe space to explore often long-standing and difficult relationship issues — between partners, parents and adult children, and adult siblings. She respects the courage it takes to confront deep emotional issues, and facilitates sessions with support and compassion, ensuring that participants are never too overwhelmed to do the work of self-exploration and connection. She uses her awareness, observations, and patient feedback to monitor the impact of each session — and for this reason makes herself available between sessions. She also collaborates, when requested, with individual therapists, psychiatrists, and neuropsychological evaluators.

Personal Note

It is deeply meaningful to me to help family members make shifts in ingrained patterns from early childhood that continue to echo in adult relationships. It is very moving to witness the courage of couples as they face their authentic selves with resilience and commitment. And as this challenging work unfolds, I remind patients — and myself — to fill the well with all the strengths and joys that exist simultaneously. When the going gets tough, that well can be drawn from.
